Location
The Sansavilla Tract is located approximately 40 miles southwest of the City of Savannah, and 13 miles from the City of Jesup. It is situated between US Highway 25 and the Altamaha River. 8,447 acres of the tract is located within the 20,500-acre Sansavilla Wildlife Management Area.
Site Information
- The Bartram Hiking Trail runs along the Altamaha River and forms the northern border of the tract. Numerous perennial streams form a lattice pattern over the site
- The Nature Conservancy has identified this area as one of their top priority acquisitions
- National Wetland Inventory classifies the site as approximately 47% forested wetlands, 50% uplands, with 3% as tidal wetlands and scrub/shrub
- One of the few wetlands mitigation projects for restoration, enhancement or preservation in the area
